-venom interview-

conducted by Wiz

First & foremost I wanna thank you for taking time to do this.

no doubt

How did you hear about SOHH.com?

My boy Terrorwrist first told me about it. I used to post at 411hype.com but that's a textcee site, and doesn't post about hip-hop news so I asked TW what his favorite site was and he said SOHH....now I'm hooked

Where you from? Tell us a bit of background

I was born and raised in Lakewood, NJ, for those of you who don't know where that is go to Great Adventure, and head east til you see me and black people, lol, that's the response I gave a few years back when I called hot 97 & Angie Martinez asked me where Lakewood was. But I lived in Lakewood til I went to college. I was in New Brunswick at Rutgers for 2 years now I live in killa Camden holding it down, nahmean? I rep for Lakewood & Camden these days

Everyone pretty much knows you're an MC. When did you get started?

1994. Me & my partner in rhyme Intellect, used to hook a mic into a tape deck, and play instrumentals on another tape deck and freestyle and record shit.

Your stage name is "Venom", Why "Venom"?

It has nothing to do with snakes, because I hate snakes for the most part, though I have incorporated a snake into my logo. I actually picked Venom from the comic books, because he's the illest villain ever. Spiderman has fucked up everybody, but he always needed help to beat Venom, plus, the comic character Venom is a metaphor for my life. Venom is a white guy (Eddie Brock), trapped inside a black symbiote suite. I view myself as a white guy, trapped in black culture whether it be because I have lived in hood after hood, or because of my passion for hip-hop.

Yeah Venom is definately an ill villian... Would you say you take a lot of heat on the boards?

Yeah, people got mad hate for me on SOHH. Most of them haven't even heard me rap. Since I'm white, they automatically assume that the thug rap I do is just me bullshitting, but I rap about who I am, and what I know. I tried to post about hip-hop and my music at first when I signed up but eventually, you either quit the site or become an asshole like everyone else. I did the later and now, most of my issues on the board are usually a result of me popping shit first. Then, being the 10 year olds half of SOHH poster are, they don't even give my tracks a chance.

Are you down with anyone on the boards?

In real life, TW is one of my closest friends, even though we are no longer affiliated musically. I'm boys with Doobius. I just started chilling with Outthere. I've hung out with Brad Luck aka Papes a few times and I'm supposed to chill with John Brown in the near future.

Speaking of John Brown.. You recently dissed several heads who post on SOHH on a mix tape. John Brown was one of them, correct?

Yes he was, but that was friendly fire.

Oh I see.. The other disses were straight up disses?

Let me break it down... Mic Soloist and his Diamondbax cru are terrible and he told me he was a better emcee than myself. So I hit them with something. In case you didnt't know, his rap name is "Wizdom". I say somethign like, "I'd never mention a whack rapper, too much WIZDOM for that" I rag on John Brown the hardest, because he doubts my "gullyness", lol, So I get on him for being a preschool teacher. Then I mention how I'm cocky since I roasted War Word, on what was probably my most classic SOHH moment. Who can forget when I turned the collabo with him into me dissing him on HIS own track? And finally, since I been on this site, people have constantly mentioned Kromeleon's "hilarious" EP. I downloaded it off of Soulseek last week, and it was the worst thing I ever heard. Then, the day I was writing my diss, someone made a post about "best real mc on sohh", I wasn't mentioned, and Kromeleon was, so I put him on blast too. The only reason I even mentioned SOHH'ers was because the track is for an SOHH mixtape by DJ Shiv Nasty. I don't put beef's on my album.

Why do you think people don't respect you as an MC?

Well, on SOHH.com, being a white MC isn't cool to begin with. Somehow, we're ruining hip-hop. And on top of that I'm a "thug" rapper so when you put "thug" & "white" together on SOHH, its the ultimate Taboo. Whenever a newbie posts in my thread, they usually say they like my shit, so most of the hate is just political I think. People got beefs with me for other reasons, or they are aliases living up to their reps.

Getting back to John Brown.. TW recently put me on John Brown and I gotta say I found it quite impressive. Very different from your style of rap. How do you view cats like TW, John Brown & OUTTHERE who have very different styles than yourself?

Personally, I don't like any of their music because that's not my taste. However, I will say that they all have skills. Outthere tears shit down, and is a great businessman. His New Jeruz Residents "empire" is about to jump off. My biggest beef with Terrorwrist is his content, he's happy with it, so all I can say is good luck. His flow has gotten a lot better with time, and his production skills are off the hook right now. He mixed my album for me. John Brown got a good flow and voice, but I didn't like his content. However, he's told me that he raps about the same shit I do but on his old stuff, he spit about conscience rap for the sake of his group. So I'm "eager" to hear his new demo.

Is there anybody on the board that you would like to knock the fuck out?

Haha! I don't take the internet seriously but, if people actually in real life, were what they represented themeselves as on SOHH.com? I'd definately chin check "Fog80". And D-Rugz says he knows me from Rutgers New Brunswick but everytime he's "seen me", he's kept it moving. If I ever see that herb in real life, he's gonna get dropped!

Have you seen the SOHH pic page?

I don't know if people post their pics or if the person who makes that site has taken shit from the boards and just made a list. But some of them pictures are funny as hell. Most guys look like homos.

Have you seen the females?

I didn't look at all of the pictues but I saw a few girls who could get it.

Do you remember any females names that you would give it to?

Nah. I only post in the spot. So all the people that I saw pictures of who were fly, I don't know by screenname. All the bangin ones were black though, haha!

When did you hear about THIS site? (SOHH Unofficial)

Today actually. I haven't been online for a few days, except briefly, because my wifey been here. She lives in B-more. She goes to my school, but she's home for the summer, so I only see her once in a while and unlike some SOHH'ers *cough cough I-HATE-YOU cough cough*, I have a life offline. *lol*

What are your thoughts on the site?

I think its hilarious! It takes what SOHH does and adds humor to it. It was a good idea. Reminds me of a paper at Rutgers. They got their school paper that comes out everyday, but each Wednesday, "The Medium" comes out and basically, they make fun of the current news, and they got a personals section for people to express their beefs. Good idea for this site!

Thanks! Are you doing any shows in the future?

Actually, I'm gonna be setting up some dope shit in October/November at my school. I'm renting out the theatre and gonna put on a free hip-hop show, with all NJ rap acts. We'll find out who spits for the love because nobody will get paid, but you get to do a 15 minute set and just rip shit for the love.

Word. Well... I wanna thank you again for taking time out to do this interview with me... Are there any final statements?

No problem. Let me end with this: To all you SOHH'ers out there, 99% of you claim to be about real hip-hop? Well people like myself, Terrorwrist, Outthere....we ARE real hip-hop. We don't got label budget backign us, we don't got MTV putting us on blast. We make music because we love it and whether we blow up or not, we're still gonna keep doing this because we love hip-hop. So don't think just because you bought a Cage album, or like Non-Phixion that you like "real hip-hop". Same thing for you Mos Def or Common fans, its all the same. Hip-hop is everything. Gangsta, Thug, Conscience, Southern, Eastern & Western. From Nelly To Talib Kweli, Scarface to Venom, its all Hip-Hop. Whatever you like is your preference, but it's all Hip-Hop! Now go buy my album. www.venommania.com

Aight. Everybody go peep www.venommania.com to check out Venom, pick up the "King Of N.J." LP on sale now. Thanks again Venom. Peace

PEACE OUT
